Experts Share the Future of Home Improvement Trends

Being in the home remodeling business requires a certain amount of attention to be focused on current trends in home improvement in order to deliver the best quality product to our customers. We recently came across a great article by Consumer Reports about what trends are considered to be the future of home improvement in 2017 and for years to come.

Indoor Gardening

According to Houzz, a survey showed that a third of home owners report leading a healthier lifestyle after a kitchen remodel, from eating more fruits and vegetables to preparing more meals at home. That being said, it’s about time that growing your own fruits and vegetables is considered the norm, right? Cue the Urban Cultivator.

Gone are the days where we need to stand in line at Vons for overpriced produce that probably is not “organic” anyways. This incredibly organized and inventive irrigated indoor garden is not only climate-controlled, but can be wheeled along and tucked into the corner of your kitchen. Consumer Reports is calling this progressive piece of equipment the future of produce and although it’s not the cheapest piece in the world at $2,500, you will get your bang for your buck.

Smart Homes

First it was smart phones, now we’re onto Smart Homes are they truly the future of household living. Apparently, 33 percent of homes are expected to have at least one connected device in 2017, according to Consumer Report’s statistics. The first to be installed for safety purposes were, of course, home security systems and security cameras, but we have really grown from that in the last 10 or more years.

Thanks to Amazon, we have been formally introduced to Alexa, or Echo, with the technology of voice-activation and this device is flying off Amazon “shelves.” By just being within the vicinity of Alexa, you can basically use her as we have utilized Siri since the iPhone S came out. Alexa is commonly used for a timer, to check the weather, to ask random questions without needing the Google search bar and to set reminders: and this is for a fraction of the cost that smart homes cost currently. According to Statista however, “household penetration should top 60 percent by 2021.” So, as homes are getting smaller and more affordable, they will also come equipped with smart home systems as well.

It’s All About Matte

Home appliances and fixtures, for years now, have been focusing on the chic look of chrome, glassy finish of polished granite and flawlessness of stainless steel, but times, they are changing. Matte has made its way back into the hearts of home owners and its trending like crazy: we’re talking not just fridges, counters and appliances, but floors and even walls! Even celebrity designer Nate Berkus predicts this gorgeous, honed finish to be the “next big thing.”
